Health benefits of resveratrol
Resveratrol is a bioactive compound naturally occurring in a variety of plant, nut and fruit sources, including grapes, berries and peanuts . It belongs to the family of phytoalexins, which are antimicrobial compounds produced by plants in reaction to environmental stresses . The role of resveratrol in cardiovascular health is currently studied a lot. Studies have shown that resveratrol supports cardiovascular health* . Resveratrol is absorbed by the endothelial cells lining blood vessels upon entering the bloodstream, from where it acts as a first line of protection of the vascular wall . Resveratrol originating from the Japanese knotweed roots and stems, like our liposomal resveratrol, is reported to have a strong antioxidant function* [4,5].
*These claims are currently on hold for revision by EFSA and not yet approved.
Why take liposomal resveratrol?
Packed in liposomes – and more precisely in the phospholipid bilayer – resveratrol stays protected against premature degradation and gets a better chance to reach the intestinal site of uptake . In addition, with liposomes its chemical stability can be improved and a more controlled release can be achieved [7, 8].
